LYMEC (kolla organisationen här, vår paraplyorganisation i Europa) pressmeddelande:
Reacting to the results of Finnish national elections, which saw the conservative National Coalition Party coming in first place, followed by the Social Democrats and the 'True Finns' party, LYMEC President Alexander Plahr declares: "This result is a warning signal for Europe. Citizens rightfully are scared about the perspective of permanent bailouts and behind the scenes horsetrading that changes the very basics on which our common currency was established. At the same time, it is much too easy an answer to switch to a general anti-European attitude. In the world of the 21st century, Finland like any other member state- needs the European Union. Going nationalistic is not the answer to today's challenges!"
LYMEC Treasurer Matilda Flemming from Finland states: "The outcome of the election is highly regrettable. Finland should not try to become a closed, inward looking country but instead use it's great potential to actively shape the European Union of the future. This also means that all justified critisiscm on the creation of the so-called European Stability Mechanism (ESM) should not endanger the current promises made by the former government in regard to Portugal."
Alexander Plahr ends: "Instead of using simple, nationalistic answers, we invite Finnish politicians to work constructively-critical on the future of Europe rather than just being negative. We however have severe doubts the so-called 'True Finns' would be even able to do so."
